About Debbie Gravitte
Vibrant vocals and magnetic stage presence are the trademarks of one of Broadway’s biggest personalities, Debbie Gravitte. A Tony Award-winner for her performance in “Broadway,” Gravitte’s career has been varied, taking her from the bright lights of Broadway, around the world and back again.
Gravitte, born in Los Angeles, inherited the love of Broadway from her mother and headed east to New York where she earned her first Broadway role just eight months later. After making her debut in the original cast of “They’re Playing Our Song,” Gravitte went on to appear in “Perfectly Frank,” which earned her a Drama Desk Award nomination, along with “Blues in the Night,” “Ain’t Broadway Grand,” “Zorba,” “Chicago” and “Les Miserables.” She’s also traveled the globe with her nightclub act, from New York’s Rainbow and Stars to London’s Pizza on the Park and back home again to Atlantic City, where she’s performed with Jay Leno, Harry Anderson and the legendary George Burns.
Gravitte recently toured with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops and has sung with numerous symphony orchestras including the National Symphony with Marvin Hamlisch, Peter Nero and the Philly Pops, and the Atlanta Symphony. Overseas, Debbie has sung with the London, Aalborg and Birminingham Symphony Orchestras, Stockholm and Munich Philharmonics and Symphonica of Brazil.
Debbie recently released her latest CD, “Defying Gravity,” a followup to “Part of Your World, The Music of Alan Menken.” Her other recordings include “Calamity Jane,” “Unsung Sondheim,” “A Broadway Christmas” and “Miss Spectacular,” just to name a few. She is currently working on her latest project, “Big Band Broadway.”
